Design for Manufacture (DFM)

Design for manufacture is the process of proactively designing an engineering product to optimise all the manufacturing functions – plastic injection moulding, assembly, testing, procurement, packaging, shipping – and ensure the best cost, quality, reliability, regulatory compliance, safety, time-to-market and customer satisfaction.

Early consideration of manufacturing – design for manufacturability – shortens product development time, minimises development and part costs, reduces re-work, and ensures a smooth transition into production for quicker time to market. Cost reduction is a key benefit of design.

Our CAD Design department is equipped with the latest computer aided design (CAD) software available:- Solidworks , Visi software and Visi mould flow.

3D CAD and Prototyping

A 3D CAD design is the first step required in the start of any initial component manufacturing project, the CAD designs will provide the necessary information required for the initial start stages of component manufacturing.

The information from the 3D CAD design files will provide vital information:  accurate material weight content and accurate dimensions. Our software will also predict the Shrinkage of the plastic material used and will alter the design dimensions to take this into account.
A 3D CAD model design is required to produce 3D print models and computer-generated prototypes. The prototypes you can have are SLS (Selective Laser Sintering), SLA (Stereo Lithography Apparatus), and FDM(Fused Deposition Modeling), allowing you the chance to feel the part and even test the part.
Our design engineers can also convert any 3D CAD files in different file formats such images, Parasolid, step, stl and many others. We take the utmost care in ensuring compliance of our conversion work to your standards and specifications.

Tool Design

Our designers will have in mind the ‘Tool design’ when they design your part, as this in itself is the key to getting a manufactured part. Injection Mould tools use Sliders, 'up and aways', gate points, ejection pins and many other items to aid the manufacture of a perfect part and we will work with you to get the best tooling option for your part.
