Our partnership with Qioptiq began in 2013 when we are asked to manufacture the plastic injection mouldings and tooling for optical housings for their cutting-edge Helmet Mounted Display (HMD).
Helmet Mounted Display System incorporating the QIOPTIQ Relay optic is the world’s most advanced biocular helmet-mounted display system bringing unprecedented capability to the world’s most advanced tactical aircraft, within the defence and aerospace industry. Its integrated head-up display is the first to provide pilots with all the critical information they need on the helmet’s visor ensuring that every mission, day or night, is supported with unsurpassed situational awareness, tactical capability, and safety.
This was truly a very exciting project for Dudley Associates, as it involved a lot of precision and expertise, which we were able to offer Qioptiq with ease.
As with most designs when they arrive with us, there were certain considerations needed to be carefully thought through.
With this particular project, the tolerance was very tight, particularly the flatness. It was essential for the part to be as flat as possible. Through different input, trials, and the running of numerous flow analysis of the part, to evaluate different feed points, we were able to successfully reach the customers’ requirements.
